CBS Evening News Airs Report On Black Farmers
CBS Evening News is scheduled to air a major report during TONIGHT’S broadcast on the ongoing struggle by thousands of Black farmers across the nation for a resolution in the cases of discrimination by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Congress has opened hearings on the subject (again). The report will chronicle the decades-old troubles in the farm system and focus on the failures of the groundbreaking 1999 civil rights lawsuit settlement that was expected to award billions of dollars to Black farmers and their families. The National Black Farmers Association worked with CBS News for more than a year on the report. Lee Cowan is the correspondent for the segment.
John Boyd, president of the National Black Farmers Association, has been invited to testify before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution at a public hearing on Monday, January 31, 2005. That hearing will be held at The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
