Invitation to speak to Butler University and Ithaca College students |
Dear Dr. Boyd, I am writing to extend an invitation to you to come and meet with a group of students from Butler University and Ithaca College to offer your expertise on the Pigford v. Veneman case, and more specifically issues surrounding the settlement between the black farmers and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). These students, who are currently interning at various agencies in the Washington D.C. area , will be studying this case as part of a course offered from December 1 - 3, 2005. We would find it a truly educational experience to hear more about this case and the settlement from the perspective of those who were most deeply affected, namely the black farmers, especially considering the investigation conducted by the Environmental Working Group, funded by the Ford Foundation that said that the USDA willfully obstructed justice and deliberately undermined the spirit of the settlement. (Washington Post 7/20/04) We look forward to your visit to the class on the evening of the December 1st which meets from 6 - 9 pm at The Washington Center. Directions will be sent to you via U.S. mail. Sincerely, Dr. Terri Jett |
