WASHINGTON, DC Equality International,
the civil rights organization founded by farmers advocate
John Boyd, responded to the statements made by conservative radio
personality William Bennett on his radio program yesterday.
But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce
crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you could abort
every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down,"
Bennett said on his program, according to news reports, before saying
it was "an impossible, ridiculous and morally reprehensible
thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out,
these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky. |

Mr. Boyd released the following statement:
The comments made by Mr. Bennett
are degrading and disgusting.
The stereotypes and the blame game continue to play a role in
Mr. Bennett's comments on issues that require more serious discussions
than those on his radio program.
It appears as though Mr. Bennett is quick to blame blacks for
all the social ills in this country. Intelligent action, backed
by genuine intelligent thinking, is the real way to change America
for the better.
Crime is a serious issue in all communities and requires level-headed
leaders to take positive steps for change. But to even think about
the abortion of all blacks, no matter the clarifications or jumbled
context, makes us wonder what's really in Mr. Bennett's heart.
Mr. Bennett needs to apologize for his comments.
