BLACK FARMERS PROTEST

* BLACK FARMERS PROTEST: John Boyd (l), president of the National Black Farmers Association, protests during an auction in Pleasant Ridge, KY, of farm land owned by Black farmer Harry Young (not shown) as Deputy U.S. Marshal Mark Sherrad motions for the crowd to move back. The Farm Service Agency evicted Young, 77, a third-generation farmer, from his home in July because he owed more than $ 748,000 in federal loans and interest. At the auction, Young's brother, Charles Young, Sr., paid $ 35,000 for the house and some limited property surrounding it. "There are still some human beings in the world," said Harry Young, pleased that his brother bought the house and he was able to move back in. Young said he did not have the same repayment options other farmers frequently are given. "If you're Black, you don't get what the White farmer gets. It's racist." The National Black Farmers Association has asked the U.S. Inspector General's Office to investigate the foreclosure, Boyd said.
